Yirgacheffe is a micro region within the much larger Sidama region in the coffee growing district of Ethiopia. This small region is widely considered to be the birthplace of coffee. The high altitude and iron rich soil of the region allow the coffee plants to grow slowly and absorb more nutrients. This in turn helps make the region have some of the highest quality Arabica coffee. No outside varieties of coffee have ever been brought in and thus the uniqueness and intensity of Yirgacheffe coffee has been the same since goat herders first discovered the plant
